MONTEC Backcountry Basecamp is your all-inclusive introduction to touring! Whether you’re new at this or have some experience, this immersive day teaches essential skills and techniques as well as route planning in a fun, supportive setting. Learn to handle your gear, master key techniques, and connect with fellow riders as you gain the confidence to explore new backcountry terrain.


This event is in collaboration ARVA. They will be supporting the event with their safety equipment and providing guidance with certified guides, so you can feel more confident when out on the mountain.

Training Levels : Beginner and intermediate in touring.

Ski/snowboard level : Participants must be able to ski confidently down a black slope and/or in the backcountry.

Included: 1 day skipass if needed, training & touring by certified guides & goodie bag.

Price : Free upon registration.

What do I need to bring?

  • Touring set-up (touring skis/splitboard, skins, poles, touring shoes)
  • Backpack
  • Safety gear: beacon, probe and shove if you have them.
  • Lunch

    Will there be safety equipment on site to borrow?
    Yes, in case you don't have any or wish to try new safety equipment, our partner ARVA will provide us with their latest products for the day, including beacons, probes, and shovels. You can inform us about your needs in the registration questionnaire.

    Please note: backpacks and ski/snowboard gear won't be provided on-site, so remember to bring your own.

Requirements

Can everyone join this event?
To join this event, you need to be able to confidently ski a black slope and/or skiing backcountry. This ensures you can fully participate in all the training sessions and safely move around the resort

Do I need to have my own insurance?
Yes, to attend this event you are required to have your own insurance, which should include coverage for outdoor and skiing activities. This measure ensures that you are protected during the event. Before the event, a waiver will be sent to all participants for signing, ensuring everyone is aware of the risks associated with this event.

As this is a free high-value event, it's important to ensure you're available before booking, and if you're unable to make it, please inform us right away so we can open your spot for someone on the waiting list.

We hope you can make the event, but to check your plans haven't changed, we'll email you before the event, asking you to confirm your place. If you don't respond within the time frame communicated in the email, your spot will go to someone on the waitlist.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to have prior experience within touring ?

No, these events welcome both riders new to the touring scene and more experienced touring enthusists. However, it's important that you have the ability to ski black slopes at least. This is to make sure that you can enjoy the downhill (as much as the uphill) safely !

I don't own any touring gear, how can I participate ?

You need touring gears for this event : you can rent some gear prior to the event, please remember to rent them THE DAY BEFORE the event as the shops won't open early enough for your to be on time to our event. We strongly advise you reserve your gears in advance with a local shop as well.

Do I need to have my own personal safety equipment?

If you do not have the necessary safety equipment (beacon/probe/shovel), we offer you the chance to borrow on site thanks to our partnership with ARVA. But we recommend you to bring your own equipment if you have. Remember to bring your own backpack & touring snowboard/ touring ski set up.

Is this event child-friendly ?

In which language will the event be conducted?

This event will be mostly conducted in English. However, if some participants speaks German, our guides will switch to accommodate.
